Two-tongued PA: Abbas asks UN for “partition” into two states, but his own PA says goal is that “Palestine” will replace Israel

  • Abbas to the UN: “Implement General Assembly resolution 181, which formed the basis for the two-state solution in 1947”

  • PA and Fatah to Palestinians: “Palestine” is “from the river to the sea”

  • PA official says Israel will cease to exist: “Many occupations have passed and left, this occupation will also leave”

When PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas last addressed the UN, he asked the international community to implement the 75-year-old Partition Plan. Its other name is UN General Assembly resolution 181, which in 1947 suggested dividing the area west of the Jordan River into a Jewish state and an Arab state:

Abbas to the UN: “Therefore, I present today to this UN organization, the title of international legitimacy in this world, with a formal request to implement General Assembly resolution 181, which formed the basis for the two-state solution in 1947…”

As is known, the Arabs rejected the plan and launched a war to destroy the nascent State of Israel.

Abbas’ recent request is in line with the PA leaders’ expressed aspirations for the future when they meet with leaders of the international community. They advocate for “two states living side by side in peace and security.”

However, as Palestinian Media Watch has demonstrated repeatedly, when PA and Fatah leaders address Palestinians at home, the message is entirely different: Israel will eventually cease to exist and all of Israel is “Palestine” – “from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.”

This was recently stated explicitly by Fatah Revolutionary Council Secretary Majed Al-Fatiani:

Fatah Revolutionary Council Secretary Majed Al-Fatiani: “There is not one Palestinian who would relinquish Palestine. Palestine is in the Palestinians’ memory. It is what is between the [Jordan] River and the [Mediterranean] Sea, and between the earth and the sky, and therefore our right to Palestine is something permanent and undeniable.”

Al-Fatiani made a similar statement a day earlier:

Fatah Revolutionary Council Secretary Majed Al-Fatiani: “The Palestinian people still holds in its national memory that we have a Palestinian homeland between the [Jordan] River and the [Mediterranean] Sea, between the land and the sky, and its name is Palestine.”

The denial of Israel's right to exist and the message that all of Israel is “Palestine” is reinforced by the PA and Fatah in numerous ways. One way is by presenting individual Israeli towns and cities as being located in “Palestine.” In the following TV program named Palestinian Cities, Israel's coastal city of Jaffa - the southern suburb of Tel Aviv - was presented as “one of Palestine’s points of access to the Mediterranean Sea”:

Official PA TV narrator: “The city of Jaffa… its location has a special significance because it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, relatively warm and quiet waters, and therefore it is one of Palestine’s (sic., Israel’s) points of access to the Mediterranean Sea, and one of the country’s main gates to the west. Through it, Palestine connects to the Mediterranean Sea states and the states of Europe, Africa, and even America.

The anticipation that Israel's existence is temporary is another message that the PA frequently presents to Palestinians, and it was expressed again recently by PA Jerusalem District Governor Adnan Ghaith:

PA Jerusalem District Governor Adnan Ghaith: “This occupation will end, because history has proven that oppression does not last long in this land. Many occupations have passed over this land and left, and this occupation will also leave.”

PMW has exposed many such statements by the PA, including a filler between programs broadcast repeatedly by official PA TV for almost a decade – since 2012. The video portrays Israel as foreign colonial occupier that is destined to be defeated and leave the land like previous “occupiers”:
