History falsification: “The Canaanites were the ancestors of the Palestinian people,” says PA official

Official PA TV program Historical Testimony, hosting Mufid Salah, head of the Nablus District Antiquities Directorate – a branch of the PA Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities

Head of the Nablus District Antiquities Directorate Mufid Salah: “It is as if the areas built out of stone in the archaeological historical town are saying: ‘I am Canaanite, Palestinian, Arab, and Islamic (sic., the Canaanites were not Arabs and the Palestinians have no history prior to the modern period), in [testimony] to all the antiquities that are here and testify to my rootedness and the depth of my attribution.’ This is the stone, these are the antiquities. They testify with full credibility about their Canaanite source and on to the Arab-Islamic periods. In all the periods, also the [ancient] historical ones, we are not falsifying history, but rather this stone is the one who has told us who our ancestors were, who the sovereign ones were, and who the owners of this land were. They were the Canaanites, our ancestors, the ancestors of the Palestinian people.”
