PA to punish striking teachers

“Senior sources announced that at the end of its meeting that was held today, Tuesday [April 18, 2023], in Ramallah, the [PA] government accepted a recommendation submitted by the [PA] Ministry of Education to implement a series of punitive measures against the teachers who are avoiding coming to their schools, and this is in order to save the school year.

According to the sources the anticipated measures, which will take effect immediately at the end of the holiday vacation, include a complete cessation of salary payment and travel [expenses], putting [teachers] on retirement, and dismissal. This includes 10 principals who are still not coming to work.

The sources emphasized that the government approved appointing substitute teachers in all subjects instead of those who are not coming to work, and this is from among those who passed the employment exam held last week.”
