Headline: “The [PA] president: We call on our people to stand as one to deal with the challenges surrounding our cause, our land, and our holy sites”

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas held the Ramadan fast-breaking meal at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah for the various groups of the Palestinian people.

Present at the meal were leadership members, Muslim and Christian religious figures, a number of ambassadors and consuls in the State of Palestine, [PA] government members, [PA] Security Forces commanders, families of Martyrs, prisoners, and wounded, judges, academics, publicists, journalists, and businessmen.

The president said: ‘We bless you, the members of the Palestinian people and all the believers in the world, on the occasion of these blessed days of the blessed [Muslim fasting] month of Ramadan, as Eid Al-Fitr (i.e., Muslim holiday marking the end of Ramadan) approaches, and on the occasion of Easter, which are religious and national events for our people.’

He continued: ‘We all bless the mother of the Martyrs and the mother of the heroic prisoners, Um Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., mother of terrorists responsible for at least 10 murders; see note below), who has sacrificed Martyrs and prisoners, and even her home that was destroyed by the Israeli occupation authorities.’ …

The president added: ‘In these blessed days, we call on all the members of our people to stand as one to deal with the challenges facing our cause, our land, and our holy sites, and to focus attention on the struggle with the occupation and on redemption from it.’

The president saluted our pure-hearted Martyrs, our heroic prisoners, and our brave wounded with admiration and appreciation. He praised our people’s resolve in the refugee camps in the homeland and in the diaspora, and our people in Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and everywhere. He again committed to protecting our national principles… [and said:] ‘We will continue our national campaign until the end of the Israeli occupation on the land of the State of Palestine, whose capital is East Jerusalem, and until the return of the Palestinian refugees and the release of all the prisoners.’

The president noted that on May 15, [2023,] the UN will for the first time commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian people’s Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel) in its corridors, and that the Palestinians everywhere are required to mark this anniversary, because this is the first time that they are not denying our Nakba.”
