"[Dmitry Diliani, a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council] denounced the statements by Republican presidential candidate Gingrich. He said that these were 'ignorant, inciting and racist' statements. In a press release published in English, a copy of which was obtained by WAFA, Diliani said: 'Our people is of the descendants of the Canaanites or, more precisely, the Jebusite tribe, which lived in their city Jerusalem before the year 3200 BCE. This proves the ignorance of [Republican presidential candidate] Newt Gingrich when it comes to historical foundations and documented facts concerning the Middle East region.'"
