Israel’s establishment was “the most heinous crime against humanity,” says PA daily column

Excerpt of a column by Muwaffaq Matar, Fatah Revolutionary Council member and regular columnist for the official PA daily

Headline: “Alertness and caution – the nation-state is in danger”

“The Palestinian national liberation movement has become a symbol for the liberation movements in the world and an example of national struggle activity. This activity is managed by a people, which the international colonialist system has denied its right to independence and sovereignty, and has provided the racist Zionist system with the foundations of a tale in order to deny its historical existence on its homeland of Palestine (sic., the Palestinians have no history prior to the modern period), and to commit the most heinous crime against humanity in modern history. This was through terror organizations that mobilized Jews with no common race or nation from all ends of the earth (sic., genetic research has conclusively proven Jews share a common origin in Israel), in order to eliminate the Palestinian nation-state that was ready to gain independence…

We must not forget the fact that the destruction of the nation-state in the Arab world began in Palestine, when [former Israeli Prime Minister] Ariel Sharon allowed Hamas and those who conspired with it to take control of the Gaza Strip (sic., Israel was not involved in Hamas’ 2007 takeover of the Gaza Strip; see note below).”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 24, 2021]

2007 Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip - Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah won the 2005 Palestinian Authority Presidential election. However, Hamas won the 2006 parliamentary elections in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank, with a majority of 74 out of 132 seats, to Fatah's 45 seats. Fatah's rule of the PA Presidency and Hamas' rule of the PA government led to friction and eventually armed conflict between Hamas and Fatah. Hamas defeated Fatah militarily in the Gaza Strip in 2007, and since then Hamas has ruled in Gaza while the PA continues to rule the PA areas in the West Bank under Fatah.
