Operation Home and Garden was against terrorists in Jenin, not the PA
“According to a joint statement from the Israeli army and Israeli Security Agency, at the launch of the operation [in Jenin on July 2, 2023], a headquarters was attacked that constitutes the united operations room of the [terror] factions in the Jenin refugee camp and the members of ‘the Jenin Brigade’ (i.e., Palestinian terror cell affiliated with Islamic Jihad). It was relayed that the headquarters additionally served as an observation operations room, as a gathering place of armed terrorists before and after terror activity, as an area for arming with weapons and explosives, and as the connection and communication center of the members. In addition, the headquarters served as a hideout for members wanted for carrying out the terror attacks in recent months in the area. The headquarters was active next to a clinic and two schools – one of them belonging to UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East).
This morning, Monday [July 3, 2023], Israeli Army Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Daniel Hagari commented on the operation… According to Hagari, the operation is ‘part of the operations that we have carried out and will carry out to strike the terror centers in the Jenin refugee camp. We have not come to occupy the refugee camp, and this is not an operation against the Palestinian Authority – rather it is against the terrorists who are embittering the lives of the residents. The [PA Security] Forces are also not a target of the operation, and we are making efforts to be coordinated with them… In the last two years 50 terror attacks have come out of Jenin, and 19 terrorists have fled to the city to hide there.’”
