“On Wednesday [Aug. 16, 2023], the El-Bireh Municipality inaugurated Freedom Prisoners Square in the Um Al-Sharayet neighborhood in El-Bireh, in the presence and with the participation of Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Dr. Laila Ghannam, Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ [Affairs] Qadura Fares, El-Bireh Mayor Islam Al-Tawil, a number of members of the city council, and a number of released prisoners and their relatives…
Ghannam began her speech by wishing for mercy on the soul of [former Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs] Qadri Abu Bakr, who was loyal to the prisoners’ cause, and she also blessed our male and female prisoners in the occupation’s prisons. Ghannam wished that we will meet them when we inaugurate a square similar to this one and place a similar environmental sculpture bearing the map of the homeland in Jerusalem, the capital of our independent state.”
