PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “We fear [they are] just throwing sand in [our] eyes or [this is] an attempt to manage the crisis and not resolve it. Particularly when we recall that the US itself previously used a veto three times at the [UN] Security Council to prevent a ceasefire. [The US] is the one that has sponsored the aggression and given it a green light from the first moment... We must not deceive ourselves that the US is looking [out] for the interests of the Palestinians, of the people in the Gaza Strip, or of the Palestinian people. The prime motive of the American policy in the region is Israel’s interest,because Israel – as we always remember and as we must continue to remember – is an American interest.”
