PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “What is happening to us (i.e., the 2023 Gaza war; see note below) is part of a war against our religion, against our nation, against our existence. Allah said: ‘And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able’ [Quran 2:217]. Shall we not defend our religion? Shall the [Islamic] nation not defend its faith, its Jerusalem, its Al-Aqsa [Mosque], its Quran?”
