PA daily quotes Sheikh: Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine, the Jews have no right to Jerusalem
Headline: "Calls to head for Al-Aqsa [Mosque] in order to thwart the attempt to invade it; the occupation turns Jerusalem into barracks"
"Occupation forces reinforced their military and police presence in the city of Jerusalem last night… in the wake of an announcement by members of the Likud extremist right-wing party as to [their intention to] break into the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday, and a call to its supporters to invade it in order to build the alleged Temple upon the ruins of the mosque… In this regard, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Islamic Law, Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is, called upon the Palestinian people, and especially the residents of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948, to head for the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to thwart the attempt to invade it… He noted that Jerusalem is the capital of the independent Palestinian state, and that the Jews have no rights to it.
Ida'is stated that the dangers facing the city of Jerusalem are real dangers. He called upon the Arab League, the Jerusalem Conference, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, and the UN, to do what they must to prevent these criminal and provocative acts, and to help the city of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
Note: The PA considers the mere presence of Jews on the Temple Mount a "break-in" or "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous security checks by Israeli security guards before being granted access to the Temple Mount.
