Abbas’ advisor: Israel is Trump’s “functional state serving US interests”

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "[US President] Trump and all the American presidents do not serve Israel, but rather use Israel. The basis is American interests. The basis is that the decision lies in Washington, and not in the corridors of the Israeli government. In the eyes of the US, Israel is a functional state that fulfills a role. This role serves the American interests in the region. When Trump thinks he needs to support Israel to achieve these interests, he is looking after the American interests, and not the Israeli ones."
