PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "Logically speaking, for every action there is a reaction. The action here is the occupation (i.e., Israel) that has now lasted for over 70 years. For over 70 years, the Palestinian people has been denied realizing its natural rights... The occupation is the reason for all the disasters in the region. The Palestinian reactions – regardless of whether the world accepts them or not, and regardless of the disputes concerning them – are reactions… What Hamas did (i.e., massacre and launch of terror war on Oct. 7, 2023) – regardless of whether we agree with it or not, regardless of whether the world accepts it or not – why did it do it?... Because of the occupation. When the occupation will end, there will be no Palestinian reaction to anything, because all the Palestinian reactions come due to the occupation… Who has created this crisis and disaster since the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) until today? Who has created the disasters of the Palestinian people? Who has created all the disasters in this region? ... The international community is the one that brought the Zionist movement to Palestine, created the disasters of the Palestinian people… [They] granted the Balfour Promise to the Zionist movement to uproot the Palestinian and replace him with a state that is foreign to this region. The international community, which created this disaster, is the one that bears responsibility for ending it."
