Why does Israel attack hospitals?

Ephraim D. Tepler and Itamar Marcus|

Israel has faced a flood of libels accusing it of intentionally targeting medical facilities without cause or conscience. These accusations omit the crucial fact that Hamas and other terror organizations continuously use hospitals as bases for their terrorism.

Now, Muhammad Saqr, a senior hospital official in Gaza, exposed the threat he received from Islamic Jihad for trying to stop them from using the hospital for operations: "Sweetie: You crossed the line – just wait! This is the first message. Al-Quds Brigades."

Saqr explained on Facebook that this was in response to his policy of keeping terror groups out of the hospital: "I worked hard to ensure that the departments... would only serve the sick, and not the uprooted people," he wrote. "This hospital is only for the residents, and we have become an example and a model in the medical sector..."

Saqr, understanding the risk to his life, appealed to the public: "Anything bad that may happen to me, I adjure you by Allah, do not accept it and do not forgive any personal harm to me."

This is the reality with which Israel is dealing. These are not innocent hospitals bombed for no reason, but medical centers systematically infiltrated by terror groups, who threaten their own people and hijack humanitarian infrastructure for military use.

Moreover, when Israel has been forced to destroy terror elements inside hospitals, it has consistently warned staff and patients ahead of its operations and has targeted only the terrorists hiding behind them—embedded in the heart of medical facilities.

In December, Palestinian Media Watch reported that a senior PA official exposed that the same Nasser Hospital was serving as a Hamas military interrogation facility.

When hospitals become terror strongholds, they are no longer protected spaces under international law. Despite this, Israel continues to issue warnings, delay strikes, and make surgical efforts to minimize civilian casualties. It is the terrorists—not Israel—who are weaponizing hospitals and endangering the lives of both patients and staff.

The following is more of the posted text exposing the threats:

"Director of Nursing Services [at the Nasser Medical Center in Khan Yunis] Dr. Muhammad Saqr wrote a short time ago:

'Very important: To the residents and people of Khan Yunis

Please note – As the chief nurse at Nasser Medical Center… I worked hard to ensure that the departments of the [medical] center would only serve the sick… we have become an example and a model in the medical sector, and thus we have ensured that Nasser Hospital would operate continuously without threats of closure.

And now I am being threatened blatantly [by Islamic Jihad], I present you a copy of the threat I received... and anything bad that may happen to me, I adjure you by Allah, do not accept it and do not forgive any personal harm to me.'"
