Double standards: PLO thanks Egypt for hosting released terrorists, while backing Egypt’s rejection of Gazan civilians who are in danger
- PLO official visits released terrorists in Cairo, thanks "Egyptian leadership and people for hosting the heroes of the Palestinian people"
- Abu Al-Humus also calls on other Arab states "to open the doors of their states to receive and host these heroes"
- Different story for civilians: Fatah cartoon mocks Trump for wanting "‘to transfer' the Gazans from their homeland to Jordan and Egypt!"
Terrorist murderers get to live comfortably in a foreign Arab capital and receive financial rewards, while Gazan civilians must remain in perpetuity in the war zone created by their elected terrorist leaders. That's the latest double standard coming out of the PLO, which praised Egypt for "hosting" newly released terrorists while supporting Egypt's vehement rejection of Gazan civilians seeking to flee the war.
Director of the PLO Commission of Prisoners' Affairs Raed Abu Al-Humus announced this position during a recent visit to Cairo, where he met with and honored terrorist prisoners who were released and deported to Egypt in an exchange deal for Israeli hostages during Hamas' ongoing Oct. 7 war on Israel.
During the visit, Abu Al-Humus – himself a released terrorist who served 10 years in prison – thanked Egypt for "hosting" the terrorists, and called on other Arab states to follow suit and "open their doors" to Palestinian terrorists:
"Abu Al-Humus thanked the Egyptian leadership and people for hosting the heroes of the Palestinian people who were recently released in the exchange process (i.e., terrorists released in exchange deal during Hamas' Oct. 7 war on Israel; see note below)... and called on all the Arab brothers to open the doors of their states to receive and host these heroes, who should be honored for defending Palestine and the honor of the Arab and Islamic nations."

The gratitude to Egypt for letting Palestinian terrorists live in its capital is ironic, given Egypt's firm and consistent rejection of taking in Gazan civilians, a rejection that has caused horrific suffering to millions and cost the lives of unknown numbers of civilians who are all being used as human shields by Hamas.
Egypt's rejection has been clearly expressed in two forms.
The first form is overtly physical, as Egypt has maintained an airtight border with Gaza throughout the war to ensure no Gazans could flee to safety. Back in 2014, Egypt began seriously tightening this border, when it created a massive buffer zone by demolishing over 1,200 Gazan homes, forcibly evicting thousands of Gazans, and creating and flooding moats with seawater Israel National News, Nov. 27, 2015]. Egypt significantly reinforced the border wall in February 2024, four months into the war, in order to block Gazans from fleeing, as was revealed by satellite imagery [CNN, Feb. 15, 2024].
The second form of Egyptian rejection is stated policy, as Egypt has repeatedly rejected US President Donald Trump's plan to relocate Gazans into Egypt and other Arab states, so as to end the many years of terror warfare emanating from the Strip. Egypt vowed it would not accept any Gazans fleeing the war in an official statement this March:
"Egypt has resolutely and definitively rejected any attempt to forcibly or voluntarily displace Palestinian brothers and sisters to any location outside Gaza, especially to Egyptian territories, as this would represent the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and pose an imminent threat to Egypt's national security."
[Egyptian State Information Service website, March 21, 2025]
In response to this position, was the PA upset at Egypt's refusal to grant shelter to Palestinians fleeing a war? Or at Egypt's cynical use of them as pawns of "the Palestinian cause" meant to damage Israel? Or perhaps its classification of all the Palestinians as an "imminent threat," a classification stemming from how Hamas is an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood that is in conflict with the Egyptian military government? No, the PA was not perturbed in the least. After all, the PA itself similarly exploits Palestinians by keeping them in "refugee camps" for decades, even in areas under its control.
Instead, the PA has joined Egypt's rejection of Trump's plan to relocate the Gazans. A recent example of this was seen in a Fatah cartoon, which ridiculed Trump for defending America's southern border from illegal immigrants while calling on Egypt and Jordan to accept Gazans:
Headline: "[US President] Trump's policy"
Caption: "Mexican refugees are not allowed to enter. We want ‘to transfer' the Gazans from their homeland to Jordan and Egypt!"
[Falestinona, Fatah's Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Jan. 29, 2025]
Abu Al-Humus did not just thank Egypt for its hospitality to terrorists during his Cairo visit. He also promised to continue financially rewarding Palestinian terrorists from all the terror organizations, including Hamas, with "material rights" as promised by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas:
"Abu Al-Humus emphasized that we are acting with full faith to serve our prisoners and released [prisoners] and their families. This is based on the public position of President Mahmoud Abbas, according to which the moral and material rights of the prisoners are inviolable, a position he highlighted in his recent speech at the Fatah Revolutionary Council session…
Abu Al-Humus noted that the commission's policy is clear, and it is being carried out with national and moral responsibility towards all the fighters, regardless of their affiliation and political leanings. The prisoners' cause is a uniting and indivisible issue."
[PLO Commission of Prisoners' Affairs, Facebook page, May 6, 2025]
This statement is significant, since in addition to being director of the PLO Commission of Prisoners' Affairs, Abu Al-Humus is also a member of the board of trustees of the Palestinian National Economic Empowerment Institution (PNEEI). PNEEI oversees the payment of salaries to imprisoned terrorists and families of dead terrorists, a role it has been tasked with ever since the PA cancelled the "Pay-for-Slay" framework on Feb. 10, 2025.
In the same Cairo visit, Abu Al-Humus called paying the terrorists "a national duty":
"[Abu Al-Humus] emphasized that serving the prisoners, the released [prisoners], and their families is a national duty, especially [for] those who are in Cairo, and that we must not neglect them."
[PLO Commission of Prisoners' Affairs, Facebook page, May 7, 2025]
This is not the first time during the ongoing war that Abu Al-Humus has visited terrorists released to Cairo. He was just there in February, when he met with terrorists Ahmed Barghouti and Muhammad Naifeh "Abu Rabia," who were involved in the murder of 12 and 13 people, respectively:

In additional gestures of PA terror support, Abu Al-Humus has also visited and honored terrorists recently released to the PA areas. Accompanied by senior Fatah terrorist Zakariya Zubeidi – who was himself released during the war – Abu Al-Humus visited the families of Ahmed Barghouti and also of Nael Barghouti, who murdered 1 person with accomplices, as well as other terrorists in Ramallah:

Abu Al-Humus is just one of many PA officials who have visited the terrorists released to Cairo, as part of the PA policy of honoring terrorists and promoting terror. Other senior PLO officials similarly visited terrorists in Egypt, as was proudly announced by Palestinian National Council (the legislative body of the PLO) Chairman Rawhi Fattouh:
The pictures show Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh and Fatah Deputy Chairman and Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul meeting with released terrorist prisoners in Egypt. The prisoners are wearing scarves featuring the PA map of "Palestine" that presents all of Israel together with the PA areas as "Palestine."

They are the ones loyal to Palestine, the first self-sacrificing fighters who are most devoted to the homeland. With their legendary resolve and their tremendous sacrifice, they have written the greatest epics in the history of the liberation of the peoples."
[Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh, Facebook page, March 13, 2025]
While the PA is elated to have terrorists "hosted" by Arab states, where they can live in the lap of luxury off of PA salaries paid via PNEEI, the same clearly cannot be said of Gazan residents, who it insists on keeping in harm's way, at the mercy of Hamas.

May 6, 2025
On Tuesday, Director of the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners' [Affairs] Raed Abu Al-Humus emphasized that we are acting with full faith to serve our prisoners and released [prisoners] and their families. This is based on the public position of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, according to which the moral and material rights of the prisoners are inviolable, a position he highlighted in his recent speech at the Fatah Revolutionary Council session held in Ramallah a few weeks ago.
Abu Al-Humus said this during his meeting with the released prisoners who were deported to Egypt, where a general meeting was held that included all the released prisoners from the national and Islamic action factions. Afterwards, the director of the commission congratulated them on their release from the chains of prison and detention, and conveyed to them the pride of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian leadership for the great sacrifices they made during their years of struggle in and out of the prisons…
Abu Al-Humus noted that the commission's policy is clear, and it is being carried out with national and moral responsibility towards all the fighters, regardless of their affiliation and political leanings. The prisoners' cause is a uniting and indivisible issue, and we will maintain this approach and this legacy, which has been instilled through the great sacrifices of the souls, bodies, and lives of the best of our people.
Abu Al-Humus thanked the Egyptian leadership and people for hosting the heroes of the Palestinian people who were recently released in the exchange process (refers to exchange deal during Hamas' Oct. 7 war on Israel; see note below -Ed.)... and called on all the Arab brothers to open the doors of their states to receive and host these heroes, who should be honored for defending Palestine and the honor of the Arab and Islamic nations."

All the issues related to the prisoners, the released [prisoners] from the Gaza Strip, and their families were discussed in the meetings. The head of the committee (sic., commission) emphasized that serving the prisoners, the released [prisoners], and their families is a national duty, especially [for] those who are in Cairo, and that we must not neglect them.
