PA calls to “suspend Israel's UN membership,” deems it “illegal”
Head of Palestinian National Council Foreign Affairs Committee Fawzi Al-Samhouri: "The executive and parliamentary efforts must be unified to establish a task force in cooperation with the sister states, particularly Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia to organize delegations that will travel the world to mobilize a large global force, which will translate this support for Palestine that we see into practical steps that will be expressed by imposing sanctions on Israel, as stipulated in the UN Charter. This will be a preliminary step towards submitting a draft resolution – as [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas called to do at the [UN] General Assembly in 2024, to suspend Israel's UN membership. This is because Israel has proven that it did not comply with Article 4, which is a fundamental condition in the charter for accepting a new state, [requiring] it to be 'peace-loving' and to implement international resolutions. This entity (i.e., Israel) has proven it is not peace-loving and does not implement international resolutions. There is a very important resolution by the UN General Assembly, resolution No. 273 – from the time when Israel, this artificial entity, was accepted as a UN member. [The resolution] set conditions for [Israel's] acceptance as a UN member: That it would implement Partition Resolution No. 181 and Resolution 194, which allows the return of the Palestinian refugees. Since the conditions for its acceptance have not been met, its [Israel's] continued [UN] membership becomes illegal."
