PLO official: “We demand multi-year funding of UNRWA, donors should fund UNRWA “without conditions”

PLO Department of Refugee Affairs Director-General Anwar Hammam: "We must note that the US granted UNRWA over $360-$365 million a year. That is, an average of a million dollars a day. This constituted about 35%-40% of the program's budget in general. Suddenly, the US stopped giving money to UNRWA with the rise of [US President] Trump... All countries, except for the US and Israel affirm the importance of UNRWA... and the importance of supporting it… We call on the international community to translate its political positions into financial positions and to increase the level of funding. We demand multi-year funding, not year by year. If there is multi-year funding, it'll lead to financial stability for the UNRWA program.The conditions [imposed on UNRWA] must be removed because it can't be that every time they say they'll give [money] to UNRWA, they impose conditions upon conditions on UNRWA's activities. This harms UNRWA's work and constitutes a surrender to the Israeli claims against UNRWA."
