Abbas rep blesses kidnapper, murderers, and leaders of terror organizations
Official PA TV aired a live broadcast from Ramallah of The People’s Conference to Support Prisoners in the Occupation’s Prisons held under the auspices of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Event moderator: “President Mahmoud Abbas’ words will be presented by Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul.”
Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul: “There are 113 pre-Oslo prisoners, some of whom have been in prison for more than 30 years. This is also something that is hard for the human mind to fathom. We bless them all. Firstly, the beloved brother, the fighter Karim Younes. Naturally, this cause affects us and troubles us very much. And we are talking about all these fighters, and about all these leaders of whom we are proud. We are talking about the beloved Marwan Barghouti, about Ahmad Sa’adat, about Fuad Al-Shubaki, about [Ibrahim] Abu Hajla. About this tremendous number of fighters; about Hassan Yousef, about Nasser, about this whole tremendous number of fighters, of whom we are very proud.”
Karim Younes - an Israeli Arab sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and killing an Israeli soldier in 1980. Israeli President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence in 2012 to 40 years.
Marwan Barghouti - serving five life sentences for orchestrating terror attacks against Israeli civilians. When arrested in 2002, he headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected member of the Palestinian Authority parliament.
Ahmad Sa’adat - serving a 30-year sentence for heading the PFLP terror organization. A song at a PFLP event also praised him for planning the assassination of Israeli Minister of Tourism Rehavam Ze'evi in 2001, but he has not been tried for this crime.
Fuad Al-Shubaki - a senior PA official who is serving a 20-year prison term. He was behind the attempt to smuggle 50 tons of illegal weapons to the Palestinian Authority aboard the Karin-A weapons’ ship in 2002.
Ibrahim Abu Hajla - member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP). He was arrested in 2002 and sentenced to 24 years in prison for attempted murder, but was released in October 2011 as part of the Shalit prisoner exchange deal brokered between the Israeli government and Hamas.
Sheikh Hassan Yousef - Hamas leader and member of Palestinian Parliament. He was in prison several times and was released most recently in January 2014. PMW has been unable to verify the circumstances surrounding his crimes and imprisonment.
