Martyrdom-death for Allah glorified in PA daily article
From an article by Rafiq Saleh Al-Sharif in the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida religious supplement:
Headline: “Martyrdom (Shahada) is light along the way to freedom and honorable life”
“He brought the Martyrs (Shahids) to His bosom, enveloped them with His mercies and His satisfaction, conveyed them from a transitory life to immortality and [everlasting] pleasures, as He fulfills all they wish from their Sovereign. I testify that there is no god but Allah, who turned to the believers and commanded them saying: ‘And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, ‘They are dead.’ Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not’ [Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow) 154]. [Muhammad] blessing and peace upon him, said: ‘The souls of the Martyrs (Shahids) are found in the heights where the green birds soar, and return to the rivers of the Garden of Eden, eat of its fruit, glide wherever they please and find shelter under golden lamps. Ibn-Masud has told [us] that it is said that the Shahids are found in a green meadow near a river at the gate of the Garden of Eden.
Oh, dear believers, what a Martyr means [for us] is no secret. He is under the shelter of Allah the Merciful, and his soul is a witness, that is to say that it is present [to demonstrate] the honor Allah has bestowed upon it. The Martyr inspires the Ummah (Grand Islamic Nation) to the spirit of Jihad, motivates it to the spirit of fida’ (sacrificing one’s life). He moves it far from the fear, laxity, and weakness that lead to surrender, defeat, and loss. He is one who fought as a Jihad warrior for the sake of doing what is just, and for the sake of spreading [what is just], and for the honor of the Ummah.”
