Horse race named after terrorist Abu Sukkar
“The Jabal Al-Nar Horse Riding Association organized the Palestine Festival of Purebred Arabian Horse Racing, sponsored by the Palestinian Equestrian Club, at the Nablus municipality racetrack. This [was done] to honor the Martyrs (Shahids) of national commitment, Martyr Ahmad Jabarah Abu Sukkar and Martyr Bajes Khatatbeh and as a sign of joy over the release of the released prisoners.”
Note: Ahmad Jabarah Abu Sukkar planned a bombing attack in 1975 in which a refrigerator filled with explosives was detonated in Jerusalem. 15 people were killed and over 60 people were wounded. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, but was released from prison after 28 years as part of a goodwill gesture from Israel to the PA in 2003. He was a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council and an advisor to Arafat on prisoners' affairs. He died of a heart attack in 2013 in the PA.
Bajes Khatatbeh – was a member of the Palestinian Authority Preventive Security Forces.
In August 2013, 104 prisoners were slated to be released by Israel as a goodwill gesture to the PA in preparation for renewed negotiations.
