Abbas pushes forward prisoners’ law to provide prisoners with benefits

“Fatah Executive Committee member Dr. Wasel Abu Yusuf referred to a letter sent by the [Palestinian] Prisoners’ Committee of the National and Islamic Forces in the Gaza Strip to [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and the [Fatah] Executive Committee members regarding the released prisoners and their financial [problems] and health problems and also about payment of the Dignified Life Grant. [He] said that it (the letter) was presented at the Executive Committee’s meeting and was on its agenda’s list of priorities.
Dr. Abu Yusuf said that during its meeting, the Executive Committee expressed the need for continuing the campaign for the released prisoners’ rights, seeing that in its announcement after its October 2, 2013 meeting, the Executive Committee called for the resolution of all issues related to released prisoners’ rights, in order to guarantee them a dignified life.
Abu Yusuf, member of [the Fatah] Executive Committee and Secretary-General of the Palestinian Liberation Front, said that President Mahmoud Abbas published instructions for the relevant PA authorities, and the government first of all, to act immediately to finalize the prisoners’ law in order to guarantee them a dignified life.
In addition, Dr. Abu Yusuf noted that during its meeting, the Executive Committee emphasized the contents of the letter of the Prisoners’ Committee of the National and Islamic Forces in the Gaza Strip from September 28, 2013, regarding the suffering of the released prisoners, both veteran and new, and their right to insurance, a job and medical treatment. Likewise, he emphasized that President Mahmoud Abbas directed a message to [PA] Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah [instructing him] to work to finalize the prisoners’ and released [prisoners’] law as soon as possible.”
