To accommodate the PA's precondition for resuming negotiations, Israel recently released two groups of imprisoned terrorists. Those terrorists will all receive financial grants from the Palestinian Authority between $27,500 and $50,000.
On PA TV, Director of the PA Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs Nael Ghannam explained the rates of the grant. A prisoner is eligible for the grant if he has served more than five years in an Israeli prison. The longer the sentence served, the higher the grant:
"The beneficiaries are released prisoners who served more than 5 years [in Israeli prisons]... One who served up to 10 years will receive $1,000 for each year [he was imprisoned]; between 11 and 15 years - it goes up to $1,500; between 15 and 20 years it goes up to $2,000, etc. The maximum total won't exceed $50,000."
Each of the recently released prisoners had served at least 20 years in prison. Accordingly, each of these prisoners will receive between $27,500 and $50,000.
In addition to this grant, terrorists receive monthly salaries after their release from prison. According to the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, "the [Palestinian] Authority will pay at least 4,000 shekels a month to prisoners released after serving a long prison term, and considers them to be returning soldiers."
For comparison, the PA government has set the national minimum wage at 1,450 shekels a month.
To accommodate the PA's precondition to return to negotiations, Israel agreed to release 104 prisoners. 52 terrorists have been released so far. Palestinian Media Watch documented that PA Chairman Abbas received the latest group of released terrorists as "our heroic brothers."
