Chief PA negotiator announces on PA radio that negotiations will not be extended
Headline: “Erekat: ‘We oppose extending the peace talks’”
“Chief [PA] negotiator Saeb Erekat yesterday [Dec. 23, 2013] ruled out any extension of peace talks with Israel beyond the agreed upon nine months. Negotiations are set to end on April 29 [2014]. Erekat told Voice of Palestine radio that ‘we oppose any extension’ of the negotiations begun at the end of last July. He noted that his recent statements on the topic were misunderstood and added: ‘I said that if we reach an agreement on all final status issues, we could continue discussing the details’… On Thursday, Palestinian negotiating team member Muhammad Shtayyeh ruled out the possibility that negotiations ‘would lead to results.’ He said that ‘the gap between us and the Israelis during these negotiations has been widening rather than shrinking.’”
