Abbas expresses hope for peaceful Muslim/Jewish coexistence

“Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem for the Christian denominations that follow the Eastern [Orthodox] Calendar – the Greek Orthodox, Assyrians, Copts and Abyssinians – culminated in Midnight Mass led by Greek Orthodox Patriarch of the city, the rest of Palestine and Jordan, Theophilos III. [The celebrations were] attended by President Mahmoud Abbas, President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, [PA] Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdallah and a number of Arab and international dignitaries…
The President [Mahmoud Abbas] expressed his hopes that the efforts invested by the American side would bear fruit and he noted that they are great [efforts], saying: ‘We hope that these efforts will produce what we and all the region’s nations want – to live in security and stability, just as the Muslim lives with the Christian in our society and that so too he will live with the Jew.’"
