“District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Dr. Laila Ghannam said that along the long road of their struggle, resolute mothers of prisoners epitomize [what is written in] booklets about the principles of the struggle, dedication, and self-sacrifice. She noted that they are the inspiration for every revolutionary and anyone with a conscience, and that they were and still are the major factor in the Palestinian equation. At a reception yesterday [January 21, 2014] for the mother of the prisoner who was released in the most recent phase and who is one of the giants of resolve and defiance -- Issa Abd Rabbo -- the District Governor said our mothers have the right to shout joyfully, rather than ache and sigh…
Ghannam declared that the 30 years of [her son’s] imprisonment have only increased Mrs. Amouna’s determination to make her dream come true and hug her son. She [Ghannam] noted that the whole world watched that first breakfast that she [Mrs. Abd Rabbo] had with him in years, and that we are all looking forward to Issa’s wedding with indescribable joy, [a wedding] that will be a new start for a fighter who left his unforgettable mark on the annals of the Palestinian national struggle.”
Note: Issa Abd Rabbo – murdered two Israeli university students, Ron Levi and Revital Seri, who were hiking south of Jerusalem on Oct. 22, 1984. He tied them up at gunpoint, put bags over their heads and then shot and murdered both. He was serving two life sentences until he was released in October 2013 as one of 104 terrorists whom Israel agreed to release to fulfill the PA's precondition for renewing negotiations.
