Israeli Arab MP defends attending ceremony honoring released terrorist: “The occupation itself is the terror”
Headline: “A radical Israeli organization demands [Israeli Arab MP Muhammad] Barakeh be prosecuted for honoring prisoners.”
“The radical right-wing Israeli organization ‘Im Tirzu’ (‘If You Will It’) sent a letter to the Israeli Parliament Ethics Committee demanding to remove parliamentary immunity from [political party] Hadash’s Chairman Muhammad Barakeh, and institute legal proceedings against him for his having honored released prisoners a number of weeks ago in Nablus. Barakeh’s office responded in a press release that ‘Im Tirzu’ had said in its letter to Ethics Committee Chairman MP Yitzhak Cohen , that it was requesting to remove Barakeh’s parliamentary immunity and institute legal proceedings against him, on the grounds that he committed an act that cannot be taken lightly and that encourages terror.
It added that ‘Im Tirzu’ was basing its request on the fact that in a ceremony held in Nablus this Jan. 2 [2014], Barakeh had honored released prisoner Miqdad Salah who spent more than 20 years in occupation prisons. Barakeh said in response to the letter: ‘My stand on the prisoners’ issue is clear, and it is that they should all be released from the occupation prisons, because they resist the occupation of their lands and the abuse of their people. The occupation itself is the terror, and it is the cause for the unrest in the country and in the region.’”

Note: Miqdad Salah - murdered 72-year-old hotel security guard Israel Tenenbaum in Netanya (June 14, 1993). He was serving 32 years in prison, but was released in August 2013, one of 104 terrorists whom Israel agreed to release to fulfill the PA's precondition for renewing negotiations.
