Palestinian official: Arab world must band together, remember Palestinian role in Iranian revolution
“[Palestinian] National Council Chairman Salim Al-Za'anoun has called on parliaments around the world to declare their full support for President Mahmoud Abbas’ resolve, in order to combat the pressure and threats that Israel is voicing against him.
In a speech delivered before 53 Islamic legislative bodies at a meeting in Tehran, the Iranian capital, as a participant in the discussions of the ninth session of the union of parliaments from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, [Al-Za'anoun] emphasized that the US’ tendency to favor Israel, as well as the financial, political and military support it provides it, must be answered by equal support of the Palestinian people by Islamic and Arab countries in order to achieve the necessary balance."…
Za’noun reminded those present at the meeting of the Palestinian role in the success of the 1979 Iranian Revolution, [recalling] how the leaders of the Palestinian Revolution had answered the call of brothers Yasser Arafat and Abu Jihad to come to Tehran and participate in the victory celebrations.
He noted that he himself, as Fatah’s representative in Kuwait, had been among those who answered the call, and met with the leader of the Islamic Revolution at the time, Imam Khomeini.”
