In the speech [given in the name] of the President [Abbas], Al-Habbash asserted that Palestinian presence in Jerusalem dates back over 5,000 years, and that the Palestinians are the only permanent element in Jerusalem, while the others came and went. Al-Habbash described the grave dangers threatening Jerusalem under the Israeli occupation – despite the fact that nobody in the world recognizes Israel’s sovereignty over it. He called on all powers, parties and governments to cooperate in defending Jerusalem and protecting its Islamic-Christian identity.”
