PA minister: Refrigerator bomber was a "Palestinian symbol," "many generations were educated on his good name and reputation”
“Yesterday evening [July 16, 2014], [PA] Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Shawqi Al-Issa laid a wreath on the grave of the oldest prisoner, the late Ahmad Jabara Abu Sukkar… Al-Issa added: ‘We will always miss this man, who sacrificed many years of his life in the occupation prisons. After his release, he dedicated his life to the prisoners…’ Al-Issa added that Abu Sukkar was a Palestinian symbol by any standards, and that many generations were educated on his good name and reputation.”
Ahmad Jabara Abu Sukkar – planned a bombing attack in 1975 in which a refrigerator filled with explosives was detonated in Jerusalem. 15 people were killed and over 60 people were wounded. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, but was released from prison after 28 years as part of a goodwill gesture from Israel to the PA in 2003. He was a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council and an advisor to Arafat on prisoners' affairs.
