Hamas declares victory
Al-Aqsa TV host: “The concept of victory changes. The concept of victory today in the Palestinian situation is different from the usual concept of victory, when there is war between two equal countries with equal weapons who can face each other. Resolve is in itself victory. Thwarting the enemy’s plans is in itself victory. Killing the enemy is victory. Signing an agreement that will remove the blockade and return our prisoners and property and rebuild our houses is victory. The fact that the resistance is in a good condition is victory. All these are aspects of the concept of victory, which is not a fixed, unchanging concept. [Rather,] it changes according to the conditions and capabilities and according to the way events unfold on the ground. Therefore, we say without hesitation or embarrassment, we say with certainty and conviction: We have won, we have truly won. Considering the occupation soldiers’ equipment, capabilities and numbers, and the inferiority of the equipment, numbers, and capabilities of the Palestinian resistance after an eight-year blockade – we have won, and Allah willing, we will continue to win.”
Note: This was broadcast during the 2014 Gaza war as Hamas was firing thousands of rockets at Israel and as Israel was responding with Operation Protective Edge, which aimed at destroying Hamas' terror infrastructure and ability to launch rockets at Israel. Despite the TV host's declaration of Hamas victory, the war continued until Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire on Aug. 26, 2014.
