Fatah leader compares Netanyahu to the leader of IS

“Fatah Central Committee member [and PLO chief negotiator] Dr. Saeb Erekat compared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the leader of the Islamic State [IS] organization Omar [sic. – should be Abu Bakr] Al-Baghdadi, in response to Netanyahu’s comparison of Hamas to the extremist [IS] organization as a way of justifying the latest aggression against the Gaza Strip. In response to Netanyahu’s speech to the UN General Assembly, Erekat told AFP: ‘Netanyahu insisted on turning the regional conflict from a political conflict into a religious one.’ He added: ‘Netanyahu tried to export the fear of the Islamic State, led by Omar [sic. – should be Abu Bakr] Al-Baghdadi, but forgot that he, Netanyahu, is the leader of the “Jewish State.”’ He explained: ‘Netanyahu insists on calling the State of Israel a Jewish State, and supports the terrorist settler cells that kill, destroy and burn mosques and churches. It is they who burned the youth Muhammad Abu Khdeir, [just] as Al-Baghdadi’s gangs kill and spread terror.’ … In addition, Erekat said that ‘with his speech, Netanyahu closed all the doors on the two-state solution within the 1967 borders. He rejects any serious political solution, and furthermore, supports the terrorism of the settlers, [just] like Al-Baghdadi.’”
