Fatah spokesman calls Balfour Declaration “a historical injustice”
“Fatah spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi welcomed, in the name of the movement, the vote of the British House of Commons, which overwhelmingly supported recognizing the State of Palestine… Al-Qawasmi explained that ‘We in Fatah expect the British government in particular to take an important step in this direction, which conforms with international legitimacy, and thereby do justice to the Palestinian people, which has endured a historical injustice since 1917… ’”
Note: The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
