PA official warns of Palestinian uprising in response to proposed law allowing both Jews and Muslims to pray on Temple Mount
“Fatah Central Committee member and Head of Civil Affairs in the PA Hussein Al-Sheikh described the events in Jerusalem as ‘a popular uprising, which may spread beyond Jerusalem if Israel carries out its plans regarding the city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.’ He said: ‘This is a natural response to the expropriation of homes and to the threats to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque. If Israel continues its present policies, it may inflame the situation, returning us to a [vicious] circle with unpredictable results.”
Note: The “threats to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque” refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.
