Israel's "provocative attacks" on Al-Asqa Mosque part of plan to change Jerusalem's "Palestinian Arab character"

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas presided over a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Jerusalem Affairs yesterday evening, in the presence of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah. The [participants] discussed the latest developments in occupied Jerusalem, especially the settlers’ continuous invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. The participants warned of the gravity of Israel’s actions and unceasing attacks and discussed ways to strengthen the resolve of the Palestinian residents in the Holy City and to fight the Israeli violations, whose goal is to cause the Palestinian people to emigrate from Jerusalem and to change its Palestinian Arab character. They warned that the continuation of these provocative attacks and violations would lead to a deterioration of the situation and to an intensification of the cycle of violence, the results of which cannot be foreseen – if Israel continues to allow extremist Jews to continuously invade the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Note: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.
