After Qurei publicized this warning and call for "immediate intervention... [to] rescue it from the threat of Judaization," a Palestinian terrorist approached Rabbi Yehuda Glick as he left the conference and shot him several times in the chest. Rabbi Glick remains in critical condition in a Jerusalem hospital.
On October 29, the day before the attempted assassination of Rabbi Glick, Palestinian Media Watch revealed that official PA TV had broadcast an edited video, in which PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas alludes to the need to use violence to defend Jerusalem, 19 times over the course of three days. It has since been broadcast an additional seven times.

The following is the report from WAFA, the official PA news agency, on Qurei’s press release:
Headline: "Qurei condemns the escalating crimes of the occupation in the Holy City"
"PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Qurei (Abu Alaa) (i.e., former PA prime minister) condemned the Israeli crimes and barbaric aggression [being perpetrated] by the Israeli occupation government in Jerusalem, particularly against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a press release [published] on October 29, 2014, Qurei mentioned the danger posed by the call to carry out extensive, large-scale invasions the following day during an Israeli Zionist conference entitled 'Israel returns to the Temple Mount' (organized by Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who was shot following the conference - Ed.).
[Qurei also mentioned] the preparation of extremist biblical plans encouraging settlers and extremist Jews to carry out large-scale invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and calling on the entire Jewish nation to invade the Mosque on the occasion of the so-called 'anniversary of the pilgrimage of Maimonides", one of the greatest extremist Jewish rabbis who called for the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the construction of the alleged Temple in its place.
Qurei said the Holy City, and particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque, were undergoing one of the most dangerous periods since the beginning of the Israeli occupation, necessitating immediate intervention in order to protect the 'first direction of prayer' [Jerusalem] and rescue it from the threat of Judaization and division according to time and space. [Qurei said that] the Israeli schemes being concocted against the Al-Aqsa Mosque must not be taken lightly or ignored, and [that] it was inconceivable that the Israeli occupier continue its atrocious aggression against the Holy City and the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
