Prisoner with two life sentences confident of early release following future exchange deals for kidnapped soldiers
“Tareq Barghouti, the PA attorney for prisoners’ and released [prisoners’] affairs, noted that the occupation court in Ofer had created a legal precedent against prisoner Ali Sa’ada from Halhul, who has been imprisoned since 2011 on the charge of the premeditated murder of two settlers, when it condemned him to two life sentences and 50 years, in addition to a 3.5 million shekel fine and compensation to the families of the victims.
It should be noted that before the sentence was read out, prisoner Ali Sa’ada turned to the tribunal and said: ‘I know you are merely helpless clerks obeying orders from above, so don’t waste words on the justness of your system. You are as far from justice as one can be. I give you regards from the kidnapped soldier (Shaul Oron) [parenthesis in source], who tells you to pass the verdict as you see fit.’”
Note: Ali Sa’ada and Wa’al Al-Araja - members of a Palestinian gang of stone-throwers who were convicted of the murder of Asher Palmer, 25, and his baby son Yonatan near Kiryat Arba in the West Bank on Sept. 23, 2011. Al-Araja threw two stones at Palmer’s car from a vehicle driven by Sa’ada, hitting Yonatan in the head and causing Palmer to lose control of his vehicle, which ran into a gulley, killing both of them instantly.
