The president said: ‘East Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, must be open to all of the religions with absolute freedom, so that every person can observe their religion, traditions, and ceremonies with full freedom.
During his participation in the Christmas feast in the Franciscan monastery in Bethlehem last night he added: ‘We want peace with our neighbors; we want security with our neighbors; we want justice from our neighbors. All that we want we received in the resolution of the [UN] General Assembly on Nov. 29, 2012. All of the territories that were occupied in 1967 are the territories of the Palestinian state, whose capital is Jerusalem, and we will not agree to anything else.’
He added: ‘If they (i.e., Israel) agree, our hands are outstretched in peace and will remain outstretched in peace. We will not change our position. We will continue to call for peace, and our hands will remain outstretched in peace, as we have no other options. We do not want to turn to other options. All of the other options are not on our agenda, we only want peace.”
