PA TV report on Islamic State rally in Gaza

Official PA TV program The State of Politics hosted Ahmed Jamil Azzam, lecturer in International Studies at Birzeit University

Official PA TV host: “Dr. Ahmed, there is a difference. ISIS in Iraq and Syria and Al-Qaeda in Somalia and other countries [are] fighting against their governments. The situation in Gaza is different. Let’s take the march that passed through the streets of Gaza. [Members of the] Salafist Jihad, or ‘IS’, as they called themselves, who swore allegiance to the Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, started [the march] peacefully, with Hamas’ permission, and even with Hamas’ protection. This video spread from the social networks to several satellite channels [which broadcast it].”

Headline in the video, which was broadcast by the Wattan News Agency: “The Salafist Jihad march in Gaza in support of the Prophet Muhammad (i.e., this followed the publication of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons after the attack and killing of cartoonists and staff at the French satirical magazine.)
Slogans chanted during the march: “The Islamic State… lives. Greetings to [Abu Bakr] Al-Baghdadi from proud Gaza.”
Male participant: “Our Sheikh, Sheikh Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, has armies in Iraq and Syria. Armies everywhere. Their drink is blood and their friends are [dismembered] body parts…”
Male participant: “I say to the entire world that the Islamic State exists and will continue to exist. Allah willing, we will slaughter all those who insult the Prophet. This is our message, Allah willing.”
