Headline: “Honoring the mothers and wives of prisoners serving life sentences”
“On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and Prisoners’ Club honored the mothers and wives of prisoners serving life sentences in the occupation’s prisons. During a ceremony in their honor, held in Ramallah with the participation of Fatah’s Ramallah and El-Bireh Branch, District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam greeted the prisoners in the occupation’s prisons… [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs director Issa Karake… clarified that Israel treats the prisoners as criminals, and forces them through its laws to pay high compensation to settlers and soldiers. He expressed his disapproval of treating prisoners as criminals, as they are defending their land. In addition, he called to make this year the year of the prisoners, to make their voices heard and convey their message to the whole world.”
Note: There are 6,500 Palestinians serving time in Israeli prisons (as of December 2014), some of whom murdered or planned the murders of Israeli civilians. All of these prisoners were imprisoned for security offenses and terror related crimes.
