Fatah accuses Hamas of inflating number of Gazan civil servants in order to get more PA money

“Perhaps it is important instead to discuss Hamas’ attempt to deceive the government and public opinion about the [civil] servants, [making it seem] as though it [Hamas] has uncovered the government’s exclusion of the civil servants that Hamas appointed in order to serve the urgent needs of the citizens, which is not the reality at all. Hamas wants to approve 40,000 civil servants, including 17,000 civil servants it has already approved, 7,000 whom it appointed on unemployment contrac ts and 16,000 policemen that it says are civil servants.
However, in a natural state of affairs, the number of civil servants required to manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip is 40,000, out of which 28,000 were already appointed (by Fatah, In addition to the 40,000 –Ed.) and are waiting for the decision on their return. This means that the number of civil servants will amount to 68,000 civil servants that would manage the affairs of 1.5 million people, while in the West Bank there are 3.5 million people, and the main services… are administered by 52,000 civil servants.”
