Official PA daily: Israel is “defiling the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]... The aggression against [the Mosque] is leading to a religious war"”
Headline: “The occupation and the herds of settlers are defiling the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], and dozens of injured and arrested among the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic –Ed.)”
“The Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem condemned the treatment of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] as ownerless and the attack of the worshippers and workers by extremist Jews and the occupation’s forces. It stated that what occurred was a despicable crime.
In a statement, it demanded of the Arabs and Muslims to do their duty to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and held the occupation authorities fully responsible for what is happening. The council emphasized: ‘The Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs only to the Muslims, and the Jews have no connection to it – not from nearby, and not from afar. The aggression against it is leading to a religious war, and only Allah knows where it will end, and that the occupation will be the loser in it…’”
On July 26, 2015 Israeli police forces broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque after Palestinian youth had barricaded themselves inside it during the night, armed with stones and fireworks. Clashes broke out, during which 4 Israeli policemen were injured.
