Palestinian solidarity with religious war around the globe
A Palestinian cleric expresses solidarity with Iraq, Chechnya and Afghanistan while addressing all Muslims "who are now in Ribat and Jihad." Ribat is an Islamic concept signifying a religious war through which Islamic land is re-conquered. Palestinians repeatedly refer to the conflict with Israel as one of "Ribat" because they claim that all of Israel is Islamic land. This Palestinian cleric states that the Palestinians are in Ribat and that whoever is in Ribat should rejoice because a reward awaits him. He mentions all the Muslim countries which are in Ribat: "our country Palestine," "oppressed Iraq," "Kashmir, Chechnya, Afghanistan."
This identification with all Muslim wars is an example of a repeated Palestinian view that they themselves are part of a greater global Islamic struggle against the West.
