PA official: Israel is "making efforts to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Headline: “Issa: Israel is dragging the region into a cycle of violence”
“Secretary-General of [the PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Dr. Hanna Issa stated that… ‘Israeli Army Minister (sic., Defense Minister) Moshe Ya'alon’s invasion of the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) yesterday [Aug. 11, 2015], and his declaration of the mosque as a closed military area in time for what is called the ’new month,’ in other words the end of the lunar month (i.e., the Jewish new month festival of Rosh Chodesh), which they are marking with road closings and by breaking out in parades in which they wave Israeli flags, are nothing but a certificate granting legitimization for settlers to invade the houses of worship, under security provided by the occupation government. This is also true regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as Israel is very close to turning the Ibrahimi Mosque into a Jewish synagogue, and simultaneously it is making efforts to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.’”
The PA and its leaders consider the Cave of the Patriarchs to be an exclusively Islamic holy site. Therefore they view any presence of Jews there as an "invasion."
