Abbas awards medal to family known for committing acts of terror

Official PA TV narrator: “President Mahmoud Abbas awarded the Medal of Jerusalem to the fighter Mustafa Abu Al-Leil, and his fighter wife, Um Mahyoub, and to all of their family, during the reception [held by] the honorable [President Abbas] for the fighter Abu Al-Leil and his family in the presidential compound in Ramallah. The President awarded the Jerusalem Award to the Abu Al-Leil family as a token of appreciation for their patience and resolve and its enormous sacrifice of Martyrs (Shahids) and prisoners throughout the struggle, and in appreciation of its resolve and giving in order that our nation will achieve liberty and independence.”
Clerk reads award text: “In the name of all-merciful Allah, the year of 2015. The President of the State of Palestine decided to award the Medal of Jerusalem to the fighter Mustafa Musa Abu Al-Leil Abu Mahyoub and his fighter wife Um Mahyoub and all their family, as a token of appreciation of this patient, resolute family which has made an enormous sacrifice of Martyrs and prisoners throughout the struggle, and in appreciation of their resolve and giving in order that our nation may achieve liberty and independence. Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine.”
Note: Four members of the Abu Al-Leil family were killed as “Martyrs”: Haled, Husseini, Samir, and Abu Al-Leil. In addition, Hussein Abu Al-Leil, a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, was sentenced to five cumulative life sentences for carrying out the shooting attack in April 2003 at the Beka’ot military camp, in which two soldiers were killed: Ofer Sharavi and Itamar Lifshitz, and an addition eight were injured.
