PA daily columnist writes that "the bullet, knife, bomb" are "our right" but "we will not be dragged" into violence
Op-ed by Fatah Revolutionary Council member Bakr Abu Bakr, regular columnist for official PA daily

“Without me encouraging them to talk, many of the men of the field activity told me: ‘We will not be dragged, drawn near, or be tempted by [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s tricks. We know where our power lies. It is not in the bullet, knife, bomb, or firearm, which is our right in all cases, but at this time, and in these internal and regional circumstances, is not available. It [the power] lies in the cry of the stone, the human strength, Jerusalem’s rage, the olive trees, the people’s determination and the all-out popular uprising in the geographic arena, as it must stretch the length and breadth of the country, and in the demographic arena, as we strive for the participation of all groups – young and adults as one…
We will not be dragged into the cycle of violence and killing, for terror today is linked to the triple alliance between the Israeli government, the [Israeli] army, and the settlers, and this is the way it should stay.”
PA leaders and officials have legitimized Palestinian violence by quoting UN resolution 3236 which "recognizes the right of the Palestinian people to regain its rights by all means." The PA interprets "all means" as including violence against civilians, but has chosen to ignore the continuation of the resolution which states that the use of "all means" should be "in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations..." The UN Charter prohibits targeting civilians, even in war. Chapter 1, Article 1, opens by saying that "international disputes" should be resolved "by peaceful means."
