PA official, day after murderer stabbed two to death:
"Palestine's morning
A morning fragranced by the blood of the Martyrs
The morning of wounded Jerusalem
Have a morning of pride and honor"
Fatah about dead Palestinian stabbers:
"The skies of Hebron are fragrant
with the scent of the homeland's Martyrs"
Fatah about dead terrorist:
"Heroic Martyr... watered the soil Palestine with his pure blood"
Fatah: "Jerusalem, how can light appear
without our blood as fuel"
by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
The morning after terrorist Muhannad Halabi in October murdered two Israeli civilians by stabbing them to death, and injured the wife and infant of one of them, PA official, Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh, Laila Ghannam described the morning on her Facebook page as one "fragranced by the blood of the Martyrs":
"Palestine's morning
A morning fragranced by the blood of the Martyrs
The morning of wounded Jerusalem
Have a morning of pride and honor"
[Facebook, "Friends of Dr. Laila Ghannam," Oct. 4, 2015]
As the Palestinian wave of violence and stabbing and shooting attacks against Israelis continues, so does this Palestinian almost worship-like rhetoric about the "Martyrs' pure blood" and their "fragrance" and "scent."Last week, Abbas' Fatah movement wrote on Facebook that "the skies of Hebron are fragrant with the scent of the homeland's Martyrs," showing photos of five Palestinians who tried to stab Israeli soldiers with knives. A young woman who was shot and killed when she drew a knife when asked to identify herself "watered the ground of Hebron with her pure blood." [Official Facebook page of the Fatah movement, Oct. 30, 2015]
Palestinian Media Watch has reported on similar expressions used by the official PA daily, describing Martyrs and their blood. One article described Palestinians as “insist[ing] on being scented with the Martyr's blood.”
The idea that the Martyr's blood is fragrant is a concept found in Islam. One Hadith (sayings and practices attributed to Islam's Prophet Muhammad) teaches about the blood of the Martyr on Resurrection Day: "Its color saffron, and its odor musk" [Sunan Abi Dawud 2541, Book 15, Hadith 65]
"Palestine's soil" was also "watered by the pure blood" of another stabber, Fadi Al-Farouh, whom the Fatah movement also referred to as a "heroic Martyr" and "escorted to his wedding" - a phrase referring to the belief that "Martyrs" marry 72 Virgins in Paradise:
"The Fatah movement escorts its heroic Martyr to his wedding
The Martyr of revenge
Fadi Hassan Al-Farouh
From the Martyrs' village of Sa'ir
Who ascended [to Paradise] as a Martyr on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 evening
And watered the soil Palestine with his pure blood
Glory and eternity to our righteous Martyrs"
[Official Facebook page of the Fatah Movement, Nov.1, 2015]
Another stabber, "the heroic Martyr," Qassem Mahmoud Qassem Saba'aneh, attempted to stab Israeli border police along with another terrorist at the Tapuach junction near Nablus on Oct. 30, 2015. Saba'aneh received the same honor from Abbas' Fatah movement and was "escorted to his wedding." On a poster announcing this, Fatah stated: "Jerusalem, how can light appear without our blood as fuel
And how will we retake Jerusalem, if we will not be the soldiers?"
[Official Facebook page of the Fatah movement, Oct. 30, 2015]
The sports section of the official PA daily honored yet another stabber, Basel Sidr, stating that:"This is a self-sacrificing fighter Martyr, whose blood was not spilled in vain, after he saturated his first love - Palestine - with it."
The paper published a photo of a banner made by the Shabab Al-Kahlil sports club of which the terrorist was a fan, honoring him:"And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision." [Sura 3, verse 169, Sahih International translation]

The terrorists the PA official is referring to are: Muhannad Halabi - killed 2 Israelis, Rabbi Nehemiah Lavi and Aharon Bennett, and injured Bennett's wife, Adele, and their 2-year-old son in a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem on Oct. 3, 2015. Following the attack, he was shot and killed by Israeli security forces. Prior to his attack, In a post to his private Facebook page, he referred to recent terror attacks as part of a "third Intifada," and said that it was a response to Israel's actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and that the Palestinian people would not "succumb to humiliation." This is a reference to the PA libel that Israel is plotting to take over and destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to the PA's portrayal of Jews praying on the Temple Mount as "an invasion of the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
Fadi Alloun - stabbed and injured Israeli citizen Moshe Malka (15), near the Old City in Jerusalem on Oct. 3, 2015.
Note: Laila Ghannam has confirmed that there are official Facebook pages for the Ramallah and El-Bireh district she governs, and that she herself supervises the page for the group called "Friends of Laila Ghannam."

"There is almost no centimeter of the Al-Hussein [Ibn Ali] field, or a balcony there or elsewhere, that does not know Basel Sidr: Everywhere, the 'Leader' (the Shabab Al-Khalil sports club was given this nickname as it was the first sports club in the West Bank, founded in 1943 -Ed.) was, the Martyr Basel also was, who the drums knew well, and whose voice rose on the sounds of their thunder as he encouraged the Palestinian sport and cheered for it. [The world of] football, its fans and players, will not forget him, as his stamp will remain engraved in memory as he cheers for the
Fidai (i.e., self-sacrificing fighter - the nickname of the Palestinian national team). Yes, this is a self-sacrificing fighter Martyr, whose blood was not spilled in vain, after he saturated his first love - Palestine - with it. In an exclusive interview with Al-Hayat Al-Riyadiya (i.e., the sports section of
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida) the Martyr's brother Qassem Sidr said... that 'He was predestined for Martyrdom by Allah, and we are proud that Basel has joined the procession of Palestine's Martyrs.'
Security officer of the football association at the Al-Hussein Ibn Ali international stadium Amin Al-Joulani said... that the Shabab Al-Khalil community lost an important and influential factor of its fan base, but it gained Martyrdom, the greatest prize."
