PA Minister of Religious Affairs: Cave of the Patriarchs "is a purely Islamic mosque, in all its plazas and sections, and the Jews have no ties to it"

Headline: “Ida’is: The occupation’s attacks on the Ibrahimi Mosque plazas constitute a forgery of its history”
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is said that the attack carried out by the occupation (i.e., Israeli) authorities and settlers against the outer plaza adjacent to the white steps of the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron constitutes a blatant blow to the Ibrahimi Mosque and its plaza, contempt for Muslim sensibilities, and a change in the character of the mosque and its history…
Minister Ida’is condemned in an exclusive interview with WAFA the acts of the occupation whose goal is to forge and change the history of this holy site, and said: ‘The occupation authorities and the settlers are acting to forge everything Islamic in Jerusalem and Hebron, and especially in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque, by changing the Islamic historical characters of the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque and the [Ibrahimi] Mosque…
He added that the arbitrary steps that are harming the houses of worship constitute a blatant infringement on the monotheistic religions and freedom of worship, which is anchored in heavenly laws and international law. Likewise, he emphasized that the Ibrahimi Mosque ‘is a purely Islamic mosque, in all its plazas and sections, and the Jews have no ties to it, and all steps being taken within and around it are invalid.’”

The PA and its leaders consider the Cave of the Patriarchs to be a Muslim religious site with no connection to Jews. Therefore they view any presence of Jews there as an “attack.”
