Fatah Commissioner expresses “support” for “the present intifada and popular resistance”
“The Fatah movement received the decisions of the EU, made at a meeting of European Foreign Ministers in Brussels, with a call to turn them into an action plan to end the Israeli occupation. It called on Europe to take immediate steps to protect the option of the Palestinian state in the framework of a two-state solution from the unilateral steps being taken by the occupation… Fatah Commissioner of International Relations and Fatah Central Committee member Nabil Shaath stated: ‘The decision made by the council of EU Foreign Ministers yesterday [Jan. 18, 2016] regarding the Palestinian issue is very positive. It is a step forward, which in the end has to lead to severe sanctions against Israel, in order to fight its [Israel’s] colonialist project on our land’… Shaath emphasized that it is important to complete the diplomatic successes by achieving national unity and the end of the rift (i.e., between Fatah and Hamas), in order to strengthen the Palestinian positon and support the present intifada and popular resistance.”
