: "Baha Alyan in Hebron University!"
"Baha Alyan (i.e., terrorist who killed 2) was powerfully present today [Feb. 1, 2016] in the plazas and corridors of Hebron University, and in its passageways and gardens, as an intellectual, a reader, and above all - a Martyr (Shahid) and a fighter, and this was in order to fulfill one of his greatest dreams: to create a reading culture in a society which suffers from the bitterness of occupation and cultural and economic colonialism in its most criminal forms.
'Dear Baha, the invitation you sent us on March 16, 2014 has reached us, with a slight delay, but has finally reached us. Today, hundreds of students from Hebron University stand in order to complete the mission you started, out of their belief in the pen and the book as means to convey our Palestinian message to the world,' said the host of the ceremony. Thus began the longest chain of readers (i.e. chain formed of people reading books) within the university's walls...
Ahlam Abayat, the activity coordinator and a student of journalism and communications at Hebron University said:
'The idea was inspired by Martyr Baha Alyan, who headed the longest academic chain of readers around the walls of Jerusalem. Today, we have done it around the university, together with all its student clubs and all faculties, and our objective is to commemorate the Martyr's idea, and to encourage awareness and culture, to introduce the reading culture into society and to prove that our Martyrs are not just numbers, but had their own ideas and dreams, and goals for which they strived just as any other living person.'
Baha, the intellectual, the Martyr and the fighter, who believed in life, loved Palestine and acted to strengthen the role of the young, passed away covered in wreaths of flowers, but his ideas did not perish, and his body, which is held frozen in the Israeli [mortuary] refrigerators since Dec. 13 of last year [2015], after his father refused the occupation's conditions for handing him over, is still pulsating with the warmth of life!"
