PA daily op-ed denies Jewish history as an “invention of the Jewish people, based on Palestine being its historic biblical land”
Headline: “Why does Israel oppose a Palestinian state?”
Excerpt of op-ed by Bassem Barhoum
“What is the basis of the Israeli opposition to a Palestinian state, and what are the reasons for the continuation of this opposition? There are reasons that are connected to the essence of the Zionist narrative and the foundations upon which it is built: The narrative of the invention of the Jewish people, based on Palestine being its historic biblical land. This narrative has been consolidated at the expense of the Palestinian people and at the expense of its land, hence the need to deny its existence and its rights. Therefore, any recognition of the national rights of the Palestinian people, or any allusion to them, means the destruction of this narrative, upon whose foundations Israel was created. Any Israeli agreement to an independent sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital means the beginning of the collapse of the Zionist structure.”
